Bully Dog Who Raised Dachshund Makes Sweetest ‘Fun Uncle’ to Her Puppies

When dogs give birth, they get right to cleaning, feeding, and caring for their new litter, no matter how tired or sore they are. It’s rough, but that’s the way the parenting cookie crumbles! Any help is a welcome gift so the new mama can finally get some rest.

One example is an American Bully named Gunner, who stepped up to help his Dachshund sibling Tokyo with her new puppies. He’s showing the world that this breed and size don’t matter one bit. Love is love, and this “fun uncle” is ready for the job.

Gunner loves helping the Dachshund he raised take care of her new brood. Now, these brand-new puppies get double the love! I’m not only talking about playtime, either.

His dedication as a nanny sets the bar for all other dogs to live and learn by. Just as Gunner cared for Tokyo from birth, he also got right to work cleaning the newborn pups to show us all what it means to be a very good boy. Take a look at their heartwarming journey together.

Gunner showing Tokyo she’s not alone to parent her new babies is a reminder that it really does take a village. As a mom myself, I concur! Babies are a lot of work, whether you’re human, canine, or otherwise, and it seems like the Bully understood the assignment from Day 1.

The new Dachshund mama seems beyond grateful for the lovebug “stepdad” by her side—as any new, tired mom would be!

Gunner may not be the biological father to those puppies, but he’s the dad who stepped up,” and sometimes that’s even more meaningful because he didn’t have to do it. He wanted to, just as he did with Tokyo when she was born.

He’s been with her from the start of her pregnancy, making it one of those companionship-for-the-books type of stories.

Gunner Gives American Bullies a Good Name

I know firsthand what it’s like having a dog breed with a bad rap. My senior rescue Staffy has never been anything but angelic, loving, and loyal despite the stereotypes many buy into. It breaks my heart to think people would feel anything but love for these amazing companions.

This is exactly why every post about Gunner, Tokyo, and the puppies they’re raising together is important. They’re breaking stigmas associated with the American Bully, Pit Bull, and all other breeds who fall under the “vicious” dog umbrella, and I thank them for it.

Gunner is a stellar example of what “good boy” means. Don’t let his looks fool you—he’s all “Fun Uncle” and loving every bit of it!
