TikToker @heyimjustriver visited some alpaca friends recently and was determined to become besties with one curious baby alpaca. The little guy couldn’t quite decide whether River was a friend or a foe, so he took his sweet time sizing her up, and the whole interaction is absolutely adorable.
River waits patiently as he inches closer, letting him set the pace from start to finish. He’s clearly curious but cautious, until Mom notices what’s happening and comes over to investigate for herself. After giving River a few sniffs, Mama decides she approves and lets the baby stay. River is secretly hoping for a kiss or maybe even a chance to pet him; watch until the end to see whether she gets her wish!
River’s patience pays off, and she gets a quick kiss before the baby decides it’s time to move on! The other baby wasn’t at all interested in making a new friend, but given some time, they probably would’ve come up to say hello, too!

Commenters Share Their Reactions About the Curious Baby Alpaca
When the mama alpaca walked up to check River out, the first thing we thought was that if she didn’t like River, she’s either going to bite or spit at her! We weren’t alone with that train of thought. @KieshPie shared, “The way I was worried the mom might spit in your face!” @River replied, “They do that but only when I don’t feed fast enough LOL!”
We laughed when one commenter shared, “Baby alpacas always look like they’re ready to laugh about something really funny…. But they never do…”
@kymberly swooned, “That is the happiest alpaca face I’ve ever seen!” @Fordy added, “AWWWW! His smile. His ears popping up!” River agreed and replied, “He’s just a happy little guy!”
Commenter @Doodle bob shared, “It wasn’t your face or your posture or your head placement. It was your energy. You produced a peaceful energy, my friend. Animals can tell, they can always tell.” We’re sure River and that little guy will become friends very soon!
