Is Walmart Open on Thanksgiving Day?

Thanksgiving is one of those rare holidays where the only real expectation is to eat well and enjoy the company of the people and pets you love most. It’s a day filled with turkey, dressing, pies, cakes and yes, even more pies—all while your fur-babies curl up nearby waiting for a chance to get their ears scratched.

Since Thanksgiving always falls on a Thursday, it seems to sneak up on us every year, bringing with it a wave of last-minute shopping needs for ingredients, household items or even pet supplies you didn’t realize you were running low on. Naturally, this leads to one of the biggest questions people have every holiday season: Is Walmart open on Thanksgiving Day 2025?

Is Walmart Open on Thanksgiving?

Since 2020, the year so many families spent time reassessing what matters most, Walmart has continued its tradition of closing all stores on Thanksgiving Day. The company made this decision to express its gratitude to its associates for their hard work, support, and dedication to the communities they serve. In 2025, the tradition continues, meaning all Walmart locations will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day so their employees can spend time with family, friends and even their own furry family members.

When Can I Get My Pet Essentials From Walmart?

With Walmart closed on the holiday, preparing ahead of time becomes essential. Most stores will operate with normal hours on Wednesday, Nov. 26, providing shoppers with one final opportunity to pick up any forgotten items. Pets tend to feel the holiday excitement just as much as we do, and having a new toy or treat ready can keep them happy and entertained while the kitchen stays busy.

Can’t make it on the eve of Thanksgiving either? No worries! You can always stop by and enjoy the Black Friday sales on Friday, Nov. 28 instead. The best part? You can stop by as early as 6 a.m. on the day to get what you’re looking for.

Walmart also offers online ordering and curbside pickup in the days leading up to Thanksgiving, making the holiday prep easier for those juggling cooking schedules, cleaning, guests, and pet care. With just a little planning, your Thanksgiving can stay calm and enjoyable, giving you more time to relax and enjoy leftovers with your furry companions once the big day is over.
