Golden Retriever Puppy Wants To Be Besties but Cat Sister Says ‘Nope’

Golden Retrievers are friendly to a fault. They don’t know a stranger, and whether the other party wants to be friends or not, the Golden is going to keep trying until they’re successful.

When Chief, a 9-week-old Golden Retriever puppy, joined his new family, he quickly assessed the situation and introduced himself to all his new friends—even the family cat, despite the very obvious avoidance tactics she deployed.

In a TikTok video shared by @staygoldenchief, the little fluffball happily trots over to the bedroom doorway where his feline sibling is sitting. Dad gently tells the cat to “be nice” as she throws a hiss in little Chief’s direction. But this sweet pup is not deterred.

As he carefully inches closer, he slowly lowers himself into an adorable sit—it’s almost as if he knows he needs to move slowly so he doesn’t spook his sister. Although she’s clearly not interested in forming any sort of friendship circle with Chief, his attempt is absolutely precious.

Chief lifts his tiny puppy paw and legit looks like he’s waving at her. Despite the cutest introduction ever, the kitty is not impressed. She turns and walks away, giving him a side-eye that clearly says, “Don’t follow me if you know what’s good for you!”

The Golden Retriever, with his tiny, fluffy tail gently wagging, watches as she walks away. In that moment, Chief decides it’s best to quit while he was ahead and sweetly resolved to try again another day.

Let’s See What Viewers Are Saying

Many viewers offered support for Chief in the comments. One said, “Poor bubs. He just wants to be her friend.” To which the puppy “replied,” “She’ll warm up to me eventually… I hope.”

Another fan pointed out, “Walking away when she could’ve thrown mad skippity pats. That’s a step in the right direction!” Honestly, he makes a good point! The kitty could’ve really shown Chief what she thought about his introduction, but instead she chose to walk away—and we’re calling that a win!

It’s a good thing for Chief that Golden Retriever charm is hard to resist—we’re hopeful that she’ll come around, eventually!
