Giving a dog their loving home might be the best gift for Christmas, and Instagram user @aguyandagoldenn’s story proves that. Jonathan Lower runs the account, and he recently shared a video that is tugging at heartstrings everywhere for good reason. In the video, Lower walked into Greenville Humane Society with one mission: to get a dog out of this shelter before Christmas.

Lower approached the front desk and told the receptionist, “I want to help get a dog out of here before Christmas. Can I take one out?” She responded without hesitation. “Yes, I think we have the perfect one.”
The receptionist then led him to Dusty, a nine‑year‑old dog who had been struggling in the shelter environment. She introduced her, saying, “So, this is Dusty. She’s about 9 years old, and I think she’s having a hard time at the shelter.”
Dusty’s shyness was obvious at first, but Lower gently petted her, cradling her face in his hands, and sat with her until she relaxed. Moments later, he clipped on her leash and led her outside, promising her a fun day.
From there, Dusty’s day turned into exactly what any dog would dream of. The video creator took her to a supermarket, picking out tennis balls, a soft blanket for what he hoped will become her new home, and a Christmas‑themed hat. He even treated her to a ride on a pedicab, scratching her head as they moved through town all the way to a bakery stop.
At the shop, Lower let Dusty pick some cookies, then brought her back to the car while reassuring her, “I’m gonna get you out of the shelter, I promise.”
The wholesome video ended back at the shelter’s reception desk, where Lower dropped the dog off, asking, “Can I sponsor Dusty’s adoption?” The receptionist immediately replied, “Of course.” His goal was not only to give her a good day, but he also wanted to remove every obstruction possible for her future family.
The post caption noted that Dusty is “often overlooked because of her age.” But in the comments, Lower confirmed the news everyone was hoping for: “Dusty has been adopted” — a perfect ending, just in time for Christmas.
