Baby Clydesdale Horse Taking His First Steps Outside of the Barn Couldn’t Be Sweeter

From their adorable looks to their innocent and playful personalities, there’s so much to love about baby animals. Of course, it’s much easier to watch them online or visit them at the zoo than it is to raise them yourself, but watching a baby grow up can be rewarding, no matter how involved one may be.

The horse whisperers at Kentucky’s @wildfireequestrian know exactly how special it is to witness a foal’s first few days, which is why they stop at nothing to give baby horses the best possible start. After one of their Clydesdale horses, Bella, gave birth to the most beautiful foal, the team let him outside for the very first time on March 7. There’s no question that Bella was ready to explore, but her colt needed some extra encouragement to take his first steps outdoors.

What a handsome little boy! His initial double-take at the barn door shows just how stunned he is to see an entirely new world at his doorstep. Did he even know there was a world outside of the barn?

Even though “He’s flabbergasted that the world doesn’t end at that door,” as @notimportant87 worded it, a little encouragement from Bella was all he needed to get the confidence he needed to face the world head-on. Even though he clacked his teeth to remind his mom he was feeling intimidated, she knew a gentle nudge would be the most effective way to show the trusting little foal it’s OK.

“Such a good mom coming back to reassure the baby,” agreed @marycarter0302. Having Mom’s love and support has already helped this nervous foal try something new, so it’s only a matter of time until he’s ready to explore even bigger pastures.

@Norenedowell brought up another adorable point when they wrote, “Just wait until he figures out he has more room for zoomies.” The Wildfire Equestrian team is going to have its hands full! Luckily, Bella is an attentive mom who will make sure her feisty foal keeps his attitude in check.

Clydesdale Horses

As several viewers noticed, this newborn foal is already very tall! This isn’t surprising given his breed, especially when he stands next to his regal-looking mom.

As draft horses, Clydesdales are some of the largest horses in the world. When fully grown, they can measure from 16 to 18 hands high (that’s 6 feet tall!) from the ground to the top of their shoulders. They can weigh over 2200 pounds, but their strength and intelligence are revered by all.

Bella’s skittish foal will grow up into a massive, majestic Clydesdale, but he’ll always be his mama’s little boy.
