Some dogs get excited for Christmas, and then there’s Rory, a Longhaired Dachshund who has taken her holiday spirit to another level. Her mom had been placing wrapped gifts under the tree when she noticed something unexpected mixed into the pile: Rory’s own toys and bones. Yes, this sweet girl was adding to the presents as if contributing her share to the family gift exchange.
Whether Rory thinks she’s helping, decorating, or giving heartfelt gifts of her favorite belongings, it’s honestly one of the sweetest dog behaviors ever caught on camera. Her little tail wags proudly as she drops another toy at the base of the tree, like, “Don’t worry, Mom, I’ve got Christmas covered, too.”
The precious clip, shared on TikTok by @rory.the.weenie, has a sweet caption that reads, “I’ve been putting presents under the tree, and my dog has started adding her toys and bones under the tree, too,” with a crying face emoji! Rory’s mom goes on to say, “Like this is adorable, but what if she’s doing it because she thinks she has no presents under the tree?! She will have a million presents on Christmas.”

One person commented, “Maybe it’s her present for you.” Someone else added, “Absolutely adorable. I think she’s telling you what she wants for Christmas, hehe.” Someone else made an interesting comment with, “I just learned that dogs understand the concept of giving gifts to each other, so they suggest you put some gifts ‘from’ your dog ‘to you’ and thank them for the gift on Christmas, they don’t want to be left out.” Awwwww.
The best part? Rory looks incredibly proud of herself. In her mind, these are her treasures, and she’s gifting them to the people she loves most. Dogs don’t understand material value; they understand emotional value. And nothing says love like offering up your favorite belongings.
It’s also a sweet reminder of how pups mimic our routines. If humans put things under the tree, Rory thinks she should, too. She’s participating. She’s contributing. She’s doing her doggy best to be part of the holiday magic. If Rory has you thinking about including your own dog in your holiday traditions, here are some fun ways to make Christmas special for them.
Great Christmas Presents for Your Dog
Great dog gifts don’t have to be fancy; think cozy blankets, plush toys, treat puzzles, and durable chews. Homemade goodies (and there are SO many recipes online for these!) and enrichment toys are always a hit, and festive bandanas make for adorable photos. But truly, the best gift you can give your fur baby is your time. Extra walks, snuggle sessions by the tree, a car ride to look at lights, or a new game of hide-and-seek with treats are all perfect gifts. Dogs treasure moments with their humans far more than anything wrapped in paper.
