Mobile dog gym keeps Rover running on the Northshore

MANDEVILLE, La. (WGNO) — “It’s about the dogs,” Arthur Ferry told WGNO News from inside his mobile dog gym. “I want happy dogs.”

In fact, that’s the name of the business, Happy Dogs Run Mobile Dog Gym.

Ferry’s mobile gym is a climate-controlled trailer that he pulls to clients’ homes. Inside, there are two slat mills that dogs can use like a person would use a treadmill, except the slat mills have no motors, allowing the dogs to set the pace.

Ferry doesn’t want to replace owners’ walks with their dogs. Instead, he simply wants to be an additional option in their busy lives.

”It’s been a very good thing, especially during the summer months,” client Derek Domingues told us. His dog Kiara loves to run, but is often afraid of strangers, so her time with Ferry is paying double dividends.

“This is probably what she looks forward to all week long,” he said.

Ferry researched his idea for several years but didn’t open shop until the spring of this year. He says he loves spending time with the dogs and how the exercise benefits both the pets and their owners.

“A happy hope and a dog that lasts as long as possible.”
