Basset Hound Goes Viral for His Hilarious ‘Drinking Problem’

Ruckus the Basset Hound has a drinking problem.

There’s no need for alarm and no need to call pup services. Ruckus’ problem lies in the fact that he wants to get his daily water intake in, but he’s trying to drink out of a very tall glass. Since Ruckus doesn’t know how to hold a glass and drink from it, he resorts to the next best thing: lapping up the water with his long tongue.

Ruckus’ humans are sharing a hilarious video on social media in which the thirsty pup can be seen using his tongue like a ladle at the bottom of a very tall glass. The crafty Basset Hound puts his whole mouth over the lip of the glass and gets to work, rapidly attempting to pull the water from the bottom of the glass into his mouth. The clever canine’s method is ingenious, though it’s unclear whether the sweet guy actually gets any water in the process.

Though viewers found Ruckus’ antics adorable, many shared advice on how the thirsty Basset Hound might have an easier time hydrating.

“This is why mine has his own cup in the car,” shared one commenter. “As soon as he gets in, he wants to drink out of the cup of water.”

Another begged, “Will someone please fill his glass with more water??!! The struggle is real.”

“Someone help this poor baby,” suggested another.

Many simply described the Basset Hound’s drinking problem as “cute” and “adorable.”

Why Dogs Want to Drink From Human Cups

If you’ve ever found your pup opting to drink from a cup rather than the more convenient dog bowl placed within reach, consider it a compliment of sorts. Dogs are often curious and like to imitate the behavior of their humans. Watching mom or dad drink from a glass may inspire a family dog to want to do the same.

Glasses also tend to carry the scent of the humans who use them. Drinking from a cup that smells like their favorite people can provide comfort and a sense of security. As pack animals, dogs enjoy sharing experiences with their humans, even when it comes to hydration.

If you find your pup trying to get their daily water intake from an inconvenient glass like Ruckus, consider offering a sturdy plastic cup. They may not get much water, but at least the glass won’t break and cause further distress.
