DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center is reminding owners to keep their pets safe around holiday food this Christmas season.

From Christmas dinner to festive treats, many holiday foods can be tempting for pets, but those food items can also place them in danger. It’s important to keep in mind the following tips to ensure a pet-safe celebration:

  • Avoid giving pets cooked bones, gravy, or buttery sides

  • Also, avoid onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, and chocolate

  • Don’t give pets anything containing xylitol

If you’d like to include your pet in the festivities, plain turkey, sweet potato, or steamed vegetables are much safer options.
