Some dogs can be very needy and also quite stubborn if things aren’t exactly as they like them.
Case in point, this sweet Golden Retriever who refuses to go on a walk with just Mom. He needs Dad there, too, for moral support/to go outside with him and watch him go to the bathroom.
This sweet boy’s name is Bowen, and he just likes everyone to be involved in his walks.
In the video, his mom is trying to get him to come down the hallway of their apartment building, and he just refuses.
So back inside, Mom goes to get Dad. “He won’t walk unless you come,” she said.
Already anticipating this, the dad is getting on his shoes and coat. Clearly, this has happened before.
Finally, Dad is ready, and now Bowen is ready to walk! He even has a little prance in his step as they walk down the hallway.
His mom writes on the video, “My Golden’s new thing is refusing to go out with one of us if he knows the other is still home. Every potty break has to be a full family affair.”
Are Golden Retrievers Needy Dogs?
Bowen’s mom wrote in the caption of the video, “Are all Golden Retrievers this needy?!?! Hahaha, he’s such a diva, but we will do anything for our king!!!”
So, are Goldens an especially needy dog breed?
The American Kennel Club notes that Goldens are an eager-to-please breed and can maintain their puppy behavior throughout adulthood.

What helps is making sure they get sufficient mental stimulation throughout the day, which means plenty of exercise, including walks, runs, and just playing around the house and outside!
Though the neediness can require a bit more effort from the humans, Bowen sure does make some cute videos with his Velcro dog behaviors.
Here he is watching football with the boys and making sure he has the best spot.
