Going for a walk is usually a Golden Retriever’s favorite part of the day. The fresh air, new scents, and of course spending time with their precious humans all make for the perfect afternoon. That is, until you find something Mom says you can’t take home with you—and then… it’s heartbreak city!
Chester, an 8-year-old Golden Retriever, was out living his best life on a walk with his mom and her son when he stumbled upon a little monster truck toy on the sidewalk. It was love at first sight for sweet Chester, and he was desperate to take the toy home with him.
As they stood on the sidewalk, Mom asked, “What did you find, buddy?” while the Golden melted into the cement and attempted to become one with the toy. Chester was laying the sad puppy-dog eyes on pretty thick. Mom continued, “I bet that’s somebody’s. I don’t think we can take that with us.”
Unfortunately, Mom figured that a tiny human might come back looking for their special truck and told the Golden Retriever they had to leave it behind. “Do you want to keep walking?” Mom asked as she gave the leash a little tug.

Chester didn’t want to keep walking, and despite his mom’s efforts to get them moving again, he really dug in his paws. She continued trying to persuade him to leave it, but as she attempted to walk away, he doubled down and wrapped his jaws around the truck.
It was heartbreaking, to say the least.

Sweet Chester’s Followers Took His Side
There was no doubt in the comment section about which way fans wanted this story to end. Nearly two thousand followers agreed that Chester should be the new owner of the toy truck, saying things like, “As a non-board-certified attorney, I can definitely say with 100% certainty that that is his toy. In the case of finders versus keepers, the court ruled in favor of finders,” and “As an ’80s baby: ‘Finders keepers, losers weepers!’”
One commenter asked, “Ok, but after you stopped recording, you gave him the truck though, right?” while another suggested, “That’s his emotional support monster truck!”
Ultimately, Mom placed the truck up on a nearby brick wall, and Chester was forced to walk away without it. She posted a follow-up video the next day, saying they had gone back and the truck was gone, so hopefully its rightful owner was happy to have it back—although maybe not as happy as Chester would have been if he’d been allowed to keep it!
