If ever there was a court reporter for daily life events, dogs would excel in that kind of role—especially if it’s related to food in any way, shape, or form. Even if it’s been 10 years since they tasted something yummy, you’d better bet they’ll remember all the details. This can be a problem if you find yourself near the place that gifted them that core memory treat.
For example, Poppy, the Golden Retriever, turned a standard walk into an all-out protest when she and Mom passed the place that offered her a treat ONE time. And, as you can imagine, the pup put on quite the sidewalk show for passersby!

Poppy is a girl after my own heart, truly. If I had a life-changing treat, I might plant myself on the sidewalk and refuse to move, too. She’s nothing if not determined to get her way!
It’s not only Golden Retrievers who remember everything, but dogs in general, and I can attest to that! Poppy couldn’t be any cuter as she puts all her weight into this dramatic event, causing Mom to have to pull her to move. I say, give this girl a treat for this scene alone!

Poppy Recently Celebrated Her First Birthday
With the loss of Golden Retriever Finley in 2024, Mom’s addition of Poppy meant more than having a companion—it meant healing. Thanks to her presence, the void of missing Finley is a little less each day, and that means celebrating all the things.
On November 16, 2025, sweet Poppy turned 1, and Mom pulled out all the stops fit for a puppy princess (and rightfully so)! Complete with gifts, decorations, a dog-friendly cake, and loads of cuddles and attention, the Golden had the time of her life.
Whatever Poppy’s reasoning for demanding a treat from that one place, she got a treat that one time, I say good for her. Dogs are our best friends and therapists through all the ups and the many downs, so they deserve something in lieu of a paycheck, amIright?
