Golden retrievers are known for a lot of things. They’re super loving. They can be dopey. And dramatic. They love food. Sometimes, with all of their personality traits, like how much they love humans and how goofy and dramatic they can be, it can be easy to forget their most obvious trait. You know, the one that’s actually in their name: retrieving. Especially when retrieving in water. The 67-second video from user @imbluethesiberiann is captioned, “Safe to say he takes his job way too seriously.” The video opens with a man walking toward a pool holding a massive pool float. (It looks like an inflatable kiddie pool.) It looks like he’s going to have a chill afternoon relaxing in the warm sun, enjoying his backyard pool. But there’s a menace following closely behind him. “I was gonna lay on my new pool floaty, but my golden retriever had other ideas,” the caption on the screen reads.
This Is Honestly So Impressive
The man starts to get in the pool, but his golden retriever menace is immediately in the water with him. “No, you’re not allowed on my raft! Bauer!” the man yells at the dog, whose name is Bauer. Eventually, the man gets in the pool, but Bauer and another golden retriever are immediately on the side barking and acting like they really want to jump in. “My dog thought I was in trouble,” the caption reads.

Bauer runs around the side of the pool a bit before the temptation becomes too much, and he leaps in and starts paddling towards the man and his raft. And then Bauer does something that’s honestly incredibly impressive. He grabs one of the ropes wrapping around the raft with his teeth and starts pulling the raft with the man still in it to shore. “So he decided to pull me to shore,” the video’s caption says.
So the man just lets Bauer do his thing. (Good call.) “And all was going well until,” the video’s caption then reads. Bauer brings him to the edge of the pool, hops out, and pulls hard on the rope attached to the raft, trying to get his human father fully ashore and safe. I think we all know where this is headed. “He wasn’t finished until I got fully out of the pool,” the caption says.
When pulling the rope doesn’t work, Bauer moves to the raft, which is made of soft plastic. And it doesn’t take long for Bauer’s teeth to puncture the raft and for it to totally deflate. “This was brand new!” Bauer’s human father exclaims, while the person filming laughs hard. And then Bauer totally shreds the raft, making sure Dad will never go out on it again.
