Although it isn’t a sight you see every day, some of the biggest dogs end up forming the closest bonds with the smallest ones around. And for one family of nineDachshunds, that’s exactly what’s happened with their newest foster sibling, a Great Dane named Harley.
Even though this senior Rescue Dog towers over the rest of the pack, she fits right in. The tiny pups have clearly decided that her size comes with perks, especially when it’s time to head back inside after playtime in the yard.

Caring for nine Dachshunds is no small task, but this dog mom makes it look effortless. And even with a Great Dane added to the mix, the household somehow runs like a storybook. Everyone has their role, and Harley is learning hers quickly.
It didn’t take long for the camera to capture just how the dogs were getting back into the house after playtime in the yard. Encouraged by her much smaller foster siblings, Harley gently nudges the door open with her nose. The Dachshunds gather below, eager and hopeful, offering encouragement from the bottom. Just a few more careful pushes, and the door opens enough for the entire crew to scoot inside, tails wagging and voices announcing their success.

It’s easy to see why Harley has been welcomed so warmly. Her calm, gentle personality makes her feel like one of the gang, just with longer legs and a very helpful reach.
Fans couldn’t get enough of the sweet teamwork. One viewer wrote, ‘OMG, Harley is definitely a ween now. She’s the big sister.’ Another commented, ‘Harley officially found her duty and service in the household.’ Someone else added, ‘Petition to keep Harley with the weens and Penny.’

Do Big and Small Dogs Get Along?
According to the American Kennel Club, dogs of different sizes can live together peacefully and happily when introductions are done properly, and personalities are compatible. Proper supervision, positive reinforcement, and respect for each dog’s comfort level help ensure safe and happy relationships, regardless of size differences.
As a dog mom with a 50-pound size difference between my two Rescue Pups, I’ve seen firsthand just how well big and small dogs can get along. When patience, kindness, and a little structure are in place, those unlikely friendships often turn into the most loyal and heartwarming bonds of all.
