Rescued Chihuahua Mix Who Lived Outside in a Crate Experiences Indoor Life with Forever Family

Animal welfare organizations work miracles every day with the precious fur babies they rescue. Many neglected and abused dogs and cats saved from their difficult circumstances get a second chance at life thanks to these dedicated animal advocates.

Chico the Chihuahua mix is one of those success stories. Discovered by the rescue team from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), Chico was forced to live outside in a small, worn out crate. His only bedding was a block of concrete. Thankfully, PETA put a stop to this injustice.

The Instagram post from @peta told Chico’s story and the poor condition the Chi mix had to endure.

“This six-pound dog only had a concrete block to curl up by for comfort,” the onscreen text explained, showing the small and emaciated brown dog tied to an old crate outside. “PETA found Chico a rack of bones, tethered and isolated outside, in desperate need of help.”

Though Chico was living in such horrible conditions, his parent didn’t make any adjustments and was reluctant to turn him over to PETA.

“We tried to get him surrendered for months before his owner finally agreed,” the story continued as a PETA Rescue Team member carried him to their van to get him the care he required.

The video showed how scared Chico was when he first arrived at PETA’s rescue facility. Soon, he was soon able to experience love and joy in his foster home.

“Chico was shaky and nervous at first,” the text shared as Chico sat on a bed with cozy blankets, quivering in fear, adding the positive change once he went into foster. “Thanks to a caring foster mom, he adjusted to life indoors, enjoying things he had never known before.”

Chico Now Has a Forever Family

Today, Chico is living the life he deserves with a “wonderful loving family”. The video shared clips of Chico being cuddled by his new mom and thriving in his new home.

The closing image of the post showed a split screen of Chico in his unbearable concrete environment contrasted with his loving forever home where he’s snuggled in warm blankets and getting all the wonderful things he deserves.

“His days of hunger, thirst, fear and lonliness are behind him,” the story concluded. “Chico got to leave that 35 pounds of concrete for all the love in the world.”
