Bernese Mountain Puppy ‘Making Biscuits’ Like a Kitten Is the Sweetest

Cats are known to make a kneading motion with their front paws, often called “making biscuits”. They usually perform this adorable practice on soft surfaces like blankets or pillows, signaling that they feel comfortable and content. It’s even cuter when tiny kittens do it.

Thor the Bernese Mountain Puppy recently went into cat mode when he started working those big fluffy paws like he was about to bake some bread.

In the TikTok from @thorthebern, the precious puppy was lying down on an extremely snuggly blanket. Thor was moving his front paws up and down the the soft fleecy material, almost like he was “playing the piano” as the caption noted.

The Bernese beauty also had the blanket in his mouth and began bobbing his head up and down with each motion. Thor looked perfectly at ease and quite comfortable, as if he does this move on a regular basis.

Followers fell in love with the fur baby and pointed out that the puppy was mimicking a trademark cat habit.

“I’ve never seen a puppy make biscuits!” one remarked.

“This might possibly the cutest thing I’ve ever seen,” another raved.

“Are you sure he wasn’t a cat in a past life?” a follower asked.

“He identifies as a wittle baby kitty making nummy biscuits,” someone posted.

“Making biscuits but it’s actually pizza dough,” a fan joked.

Why Do Cats Knead?

Studies have speculated on the reasons felines often “make biscuits”. This behavior is rooted in instinct and begins when they’re kittens. Some theories include:

  • Kittenhood habits: Nursing kittens often knead their mother’s belly for milk flow, where they carry this practice into adulthood.

  • Marking territory: Cats are notorious for being territorial. Since they have scent glands in their paws, kneading helps them deposit their scent and mark an area as their own.

  • Sheer comfort: Just like humans arrange blankets or pillows, cats knead to create a comfortable environment to sleep or relax.

  • Bonding: Some felines use this behavior to connect with people or other pets.

Thor’s need for kneading probably falls under one or several of these categories. Regardless of the reason, the canine cutie looks adorable in the process.
