Experts may say that dogs don’t have the ability to smile, but ask anybody with a fur baby at home and they’ll tell you that’s just not true. Dogs can express a wide range of emotions, and while they may not smile the exact way humans do, you can absolutely tell when a dog is happy, smile and all.
Wynn is an adorable, friendly Golden Retriever who greets everyone she meets with a smile. The only problem? Her smile doesn’t exactly scream friendly or sweet. In fact, as you’ll see in a video her mom recently shared on TikTok, it’s a little bit terrifying. Scary or not, it’s still impossible not to find yourself smiling when you see hers!
Aww! Wynn is such a sweet girl and we can’t imagine her being scary, even if her smile isn’t the happiest one we’ve ever seen!

Cute Comments about Wynn’s Scary Smile
Wynn’s mom asked in the video’s caption, “Does anyone eles’s dog smile like this?” Commenters immediately shared photos of their own dogs smiling just like Wynn, proving it’s not as unusual as she thought.
@Aliya shared, “Yes, and I think it’s so funny because what is that face lmao!” @Jess Rackley said, “Our Doberman smiled like this. Everyone was terrified when they first met her.” It might actually be more scary coming from a Dobie instead of a Golden!
Another commenter shared, “My Alaskan Malamute used to do this when we asked her to smile, it was the cutest thing ever!”
An article on the Purina website explains more about smiling dogs. “Dogs can make their faces appear to smile. This happens when they open their mouths and pull back their lips, letting their tongues lap over their teeth. This “dog smile” usually occurs in situations when they are relaxed and appear happy. These “dog smiles” also often occur in response to a human smile, which is a phenomenon called laughter contagion. Dogs may appear to smile because we smile at them.”
@12standup had our favorite comment, “Those teefers are so misunderstood!” They certainly are!
