A pet sitter is in the doghouse after breaking agreed-upon rules.
A homeowner explained on the community forum Mumsnet that she learned her pet sitter has been inviting friends over and ignoring the pets.
“We have an arrangement with our cleaner that she takes care of our animals when we are away for a few days,” the homeowner said. “We had an agreement when this started that we would prefer she didn’t have visitors apart from her long-term boyfriend. He is away at the moment.”
She continued of their mutual agreement, “She was totally on board, and said she would feel the same if it was her house.”

However, despite paying the pet sitter “really really well” and leaving her “lots of treats including fresh flowers,” the homeowner claimed that their agreement seems to have recently been broken.
“Our neighbor texted me to say there are people coming and going from our house and sent me her Ring doorbell footage,” the homeowner said. “Not only is she having friends over, she isn’t actually spending time with the animals or cleaning as the rest of the time she has been out.”
The concerned homeowner and pet owner added, “While we obviously don’t mind her going out, and want her to be happy, I just feel taken for a ride as she is clearly not there doing either.”
Wanting to give the pet sitter a chance to come clean, the homeowner texted the woman to ask how things were going at the house.

“I have messaged her to see how she is, hoping she would be honest about her friend coming over and staying for hours in our house, but she has continued to lie to me,” she said. “I feel like I can’t trust her now.”

Mumsnet users chimed in with recommendations on how to handle this.
“I’d sack her and find someone new. The having friends over isn’t too terrible, but not looking after the animals would be the deal breaker for me,” one reader replied. “It’s s— for the animals and it’s s— for you.”
Another person commented, “She needs to be sacked and hopefully learn that you do often get caught when you take your employer for a fool.”
