Some dogs have a favorite toy, while others prefer playing with tennis balls or gnawing on bones. For one tenacious Dachshund, however, nothing makes him feel like a king quite like carrying around the largest stick he can find. Sometimes, he even brings home an entire branch!
Goose makes everyone in NYC’s Greenwich Village smile when he’s carrying around a stick, and his February 10 escapade was no exception. He gets the sweetest reactions! This little dog is practically a local celebrity, especially because no one forgets seeing such a small dog with such a large branch.
What a champ! Goose must be a strong dog to carry a branch that’s longer than he is, but rest assured, he’s had tons of practice. At this point, he’s just showing off for the sake of having fun!
“I swear he nodded at the guy who let him pass,” commented @cvcjnnbcs. He totally did! This polite little gentleman is the sweetest pup, even when he’s on a mission to get his stick back home safe and sound.

Despite how much practice Goose has had, it’s impressive to see how easily he navigates a crowded sidewalk with a massive branch in his mouth. Spatial awareness isn’t a skill that all dogs have, but this sausage dog’s tiny stature definitely gives him an advantage. He can see everything, as long as the branch isn’t in front of his face!
From his little jacket to his massive confidence, there’s so much to adore about Goose. Sometimes, the biggest personalities come in the smallest packages! Another commenter was totally right when they wrote, “Every single person who saw him had a better day.”
Why Do Dogs Like Sticks?
Goose is far from the only dog that likes to find the perfect stick to chew or carry around. But why do they do this?
Not only do sticks smell and taste like nature, which many dogs find appealing, but they’re also the perfect size for dogs to pick up and carry. Their texture can be satisfying, especially for teething puppies, and their easy access makes them an ideal target for playful pups.
Chewing up a stick isn’t the safest way a dog can have fun, but carrying one can be fun for a dog and entertaining for everyone else. No wonder Goose is such a popular pup!
