Chocolate Lab Puppy Has No Memory of the Shoe in Question and No Regrets Either

Dog parents everywhere know the look—that guilty expression pups give when they know they’ve done something they shouldn’t, but they can’t face owning up to it. Lola, a 6-month-old Chocolate Lab puppy, searches for the perfect excuse when her mom points at her sandal on the living room floor and says, “Lola, what is that?”

We can clearly see the half-eaten leather shoe, with little pieces scattered across the carpet, so the evidence is pretty solid. Still, Lola’s big, pleading puppy dog eyes tell a completely different story. Mom pans over to Lola with the camera and asks again, “What is that?” but the Labrador stands perfectly still, silently denying all the charges.

Her back is a little hunched over, and she knows she’s busted. Lola almost meets her mom’s gaze but can’t quite bring herself to make full eye contact. When her human finally says, “What did you do?” the sweet pup gives absolutely no response. It’s the classic guilty-but-trying-to-look-innocent move that’s been passed down through generations of Labs before her!

Obviously, the only logical explanation is that the house was broken into, and a burglar tried to get away with the shoe. Lola, the bravest puppy on the planet, had to wrestle with the intruder to save it—that’s her story, and she’s sticking to it! Even her “attorney,” @arlo.the.standard.poodle weighed in: “I’m her lawyer, and she’s innocent.”

Honestly, I can relate. My own puppy once ate my son’s quesadilla right off his plate while he was in the bathroom. When I confronted her, she froze like a stone statue, her eyes shifting from side to side—because she knew just one moment of eye contact would be a full confession!
