It’s no secret that fostering animals saves lives. Giving a shelter pet a safe place to rediscover themselves is the ultimate gift, and it creates more space in the shelter for other animals in need. What could be better?
Kait is a passionate dog foster mom who opens her home and her heart to dogs like Eggnog who are down on their luck. After pulling him from the euthanasia list with just hours to spare, Kait and her husband met the 1-year-old Staffordshire Terrier at the local airport to give him the ultimate Valentine’s Day gift: a foster home! The grateful dog couldn’t be happier to meet his rescuers, and his joyful first day of freedom was just beginning.
Now that’s one happy dog! Eggnog knows the best days of his life are still ahead of him, and it’s all thanks to Kait’s selflessness. She already had a foster dog on the way when she heard about Eggnog, but she wasn’t about to stand by and do nothing.
Fortunately, the grateful dog got along perfectly with the first foster siblings he met! Eggnog’s playful hops are full of pure joy, but watching the dogs share the water bowl just might be the sweetest part of the video.

“He’s definitely going to make some family so happy,” commented @jenniferbrinkley3. “Such a sweet boy.” From his cuddles with his foster dad in the car to the way he sleeps on his back in the bed, he’s made it clear he’s ready to find his family. Once he’s all cleared with Happy Paws Haven in Detroit, he’ll be up for adoption!
Foster Fail
Dozens of commenters noticed how comfortable Eggnog is in Kait’s home and couldn’t help but wonder if this would be a foster fail. @Erindevault75 wrote, “You chose him to foster, but he’s choosing you as his forever family.”
It’s easy to see why viewers would think Kait and her husband would adopt this adorable dog. It took Eggnog all of five seconds to feel at home with his foster family, but Kait made it clear that her home is a temporary stop on his journey. Her passion is saving lives through fostering dogs, but if she adopted them all, she wouldn’t be able to foster any more!
Eggnog may not stay with his foster family forever, but they’ll always have a special place in his heart. Even once he finds his forever home, Kait will always be his foster mama.
