Walking a dog in winter weather is no easy task. Whether it’s a stubborn dog that hates the rain or simply not wanting to trek the elements yourself, there are more than enough reasons to want to lie low when the weather isn’t right. Unfortunately, even the weather doesn’t exempt dogs from needing to get their daily dose of physical exercise. However, thanks to one savvy dog dad, winter walks may have just gotten easier.
The viral moment was posted to the Instagram of @mr.milobug, which showcased Milo the Maltipoo on an arduous walk in his own living room. With the help of his dad, Milo strutted down a small treadmill positioned right in front of a flat screen TV sitting on the floor with a looping video of a beautiful creek. While Milo was certainly missing the real experience, this novel idea was a good compromise for all.

Milo’s mom joined in on the fun with the caption, “That’s one way to walk the dog, I guess.” Can’t blame dad for his creativity.
Funny Reactions to Milo’s Indoor Walk
Viewers were left impressed by Milo’s dad’s ingenuity and couldn’t help but enjoy the moment. One commentator shared, “This way, they’re both safe from predators.” Another person commented, “LoL! I wish I could do that with my puppy during the rainy season.”
Someone else also made a valid point: “Keep the baby fur always clean.” A total win-win situation in our book.
Another person joined team mom with the comment, “Anything but actually taking the dog on a walk.”
Walking Dogs in Winter Weather
While the indoor treadmill is a clever invention for burning off extra energy, it doesn’t solve every situation. According to Dr. Nick Horniman, MRCVS, a veterinary surgeon and the founder of the United Kingdom-based VETSbarn Veterinary Centre, pet parents should avoid walking their pets in conditions under 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Cold-weather walks should also be limited to under 30 minutes for safety. Both older dogs and puppies are more susceptible to problems caused by cold weather and require a bit more care during this season.
When walking your dog outside during the winter weather, it’s important to keep their bodies warm with jackets that are snug enough to keep them warm but don’t limit their movement. After winter walks, you should also wipe down their paws to avoid rock salt that may have gotten stuck and can cause stomach issues or irritation to the feet.
