Giving a dog a treat is undoubtedly a love language. Some dogs truly appreciate being handed one of their favorite snacks, and for anyone on the other end of it, it’s a surge of serotonin. My dog nephew, Kiwi, has certainly learned how to manipulate me for a few more treats with those big puppy-dog eyes that only dogs know how to use to their advantage. Although I wish I could shower him with every treat and indulgence, it’s impossible to satisfy them on every occasion.
The restraint is because while some treats are beneficial to dogs, too much food can put our fur babies at risk. Too much food and treats, coupled with a lack of exercise, can be detrimental to their health. Thankfully for Lexi, a Labrador retriever with her own YouTube channel, her weight was caught early on, making it easy for her to get back on track.

Unfortunately for Lexi, this means fewer treats and more physical activity. However, in a recent update shared by her mom, Lexi’s diet plan has been right on track, earning her a fun reward from the pet store.
Viewers React to Lexi’s Positive Health Update
In the video, Lexi’s mom talks about how her Labrador retriever’s diet has been challenging for both of them. For Lexi’s mom, not indulging her furry friend in a treat every time has been difficult. At the beginning of the video, it’s revealed Lexi has already lost seven pounds with her new diet plan, a promising update.
Further along, Lexi and her human head to the pet store for another weigh-in. While she eventually gave in, Lexi is very clear that she was not happy with hiding in the aisles away from the scale. Once she fully cooperated, Lexi jumped onto the scale and revealed that she had lost another three pounds.

As a reward, Lexi got herself a new puzzle feeder for her diet kibble. In total, Lexi was recommended by her vet to lose 15 pounds, with 10 pounds now lost, so Lexi is close to reaching her goal.
Viewers who enjoyed seeing Lexi continue to thrive in her goal couldn’t help but give her human major kudos for the feat. One person commented, “YOURE INCREDIBLE!!! Soooo many owners who are told by the vet their dog is overweight don’t care or don’t do anything about it. Youre so amazing and youre what every dog needs!!! Overfeeding isnt love its joint pain and sooner death.”
Another commenter added, “As a vet nurse student, it heals me to see an owner taking responsibility and realizing the impact overweight has. This is the way to give her love – a long and healthy life!!”
While it’s true that many dogs’ love language includes receiving treats, it’s also true that balance is the key to a happy and healthy dog.
