Golden Retrievers Enjoying ‘Scratchies’ Steals Hearts

Who does not love a good dose of scratches? Well, two Golden Retrievers named Wiley and Benji love scratchies from their human in this adorable Instagram video. The sweet clip shows both pups settling in close as their owner gives them gentle “scratchies” in two very specific places, including the little space between the eyes and the area under the chin.

Golden Retrievers can’t keep their eyes open while enjoying ‘scratchies’ in cute video

As the Golden Retrievers receive their scratchies in the video from user @smileywileydog, they melt into peace and relaxation. Within seconds, their faces say it all, with their eyes drooping and their mouths loosening up into happy smiles, as they look like they could melt into the couch — or into their human’s hands.

The on-screen caption asks on behalf of the dogs, “If not for scratchies, then what is the little space between the eyes and under the chin for?” Meanwhile, the caption under the video answers with confidence, reading, “It’s strictly for scratchies.”

Meanwhile, viewers in the comments could not argue. One viewer called it “So relaxing,” while another agreed those spots are “definitely for scratches and kisses,” and a third commenter declared it, “The only correct use of those spots.” Additionally, a few people made the same polite demand, requesting the owner, “Don’t ever stop scratching.”

It’s no surprise that dogs often love scratches and rubs in some areas, because they can’t reach them easily on their own. Besides, the touch feels soothing. Gentle scratching also mirrors the same kind of comfort signals dogs get from social grooming — something that can help them settle and soften their expression. All in all, it is basically a small way canines bond with the people they trust.

The Golden Retrievers do not need to explain any of that in this video, though — all they need to do is just close their eyes and enjoy their scratchies.
