It is a good time to be a gorilla at the San Antonio Zoo. As this video shows, the gorillas there were recently treated to some very tasty veggie burger enrichment meals, which they absolutely loved!

These gorgeous primates are absolutely living their best lives at the zoo’s world-class Congo Falls habitat, where this video notes, “enrichment is always evolving!”

Gorillas Shana, Juba, Andi, and Ajari were recently treated to special “veggie burgers,” which were made by Animal Care Specialists who were inspired by the famous Whataburger.

According to this video, these burgers were made out of primate biscuits and, in classic burger style, featured tomatoes, lettuce, and bread. Additionally, they also included “french fries” cut from the dried apple slices.

Going by this footage, it’s hard to say who enjoyed their special burger and fries more. Each of these gorgeous gorillas was equally playful when it came to opening the box that their delicious food came in and then devouring it once they realized how tasty it was!

According to this video, these special burgers and fries were a novel enrichment experience for these gorillas, which sparked curiosity, while encouraging their natural behaviors.

When gorillas encounter new experiences, challenges, smells, and textures via new enrichment objects, they are more likely to engage in problem-solving behaviors, which give them cognitive stimulation and physical activity that promotes their overall well-being.

Social media simply could not get enough of these precious primates playing with and devouring their special veggie burgers and fries. Instagram user melindalopez jokingly wrote that, “Those gorillas are spoiled, LOL!”

While Instagram user charliehorshack commented that watching these gorillas to do their thing with their food was super amusing when they wrote, “There are few things as both adorable and hysterical as gorillas running around bipedally.”

These Gorillas Are Living the Good Life

According to the San Antonio Zoo, the Congo Falls exhibit that these lucky gorillas live at is an immersive, two-acre habitat that is at the cutting-edge of “innovative design, wildlife conservation, education, and exceptional animal care.” They also claim it to be “the world’s tallest, wildest, greatest gorilla experience.”

Featuring intricately designed enclosures that replicate the “lush, multilevel terrain of the African jungle,” these gorillas enjoy a plethora of enrichment activities that are as engaging for them to participate in as they are for zoo visitors to watch.

If this video was anything to go by, then there is no doubt that Shana, Juba, Andi, and Ajari are living their best lives at the San Antonio Zoo’s Congo Falls exhibit.
