There are a lot of small dogs in the world, but not all small dogs give off the main-character energy that makes them feel almost larger than life. Chihuahuas are really good at pretending they’re the biggest dog in the world, and in another life would have fit right in as the leader of a wolf pack.

This video captures a Chihuahua who very much has that energy, which comes in the form of an enormous howl that lets everyone know he runs the show. Take a look at this little guy!

On February 23, 2026, @stacychermol introduced us to a 2-pound “gremlin” Chihuahua named Franklin, who is not like other pups. He has no concept of how small he is compared to his mom or other dogs, and his confidence level proves it. The wilderness may disagree, but he does not.

It doesn’t matter if anyone tells him he’s not a tough guy, because he believes he is, and he’s been practicing his giant wolf howl as if he runs the whole wilderness. Franklin unleashes his massive wolf howl, making size irrelevant, and people in the comments are having a good giggle listening to him.

One person wrote, “Did he literally forget you were sitting next to him, or is he seriously crying for help? I’m confused”

Another shared, “The way he properly throws himself into it 😂 absolutely precious, but you are right, definitely a mini wolf!”

Someone else added, “Does he know you are actually behind him and not abducted by aliens?”

Other comments included, “You hurry up and give that boy whatever he wants,” “Poor baby. I would have to hold him all day. Carry him in a papoose,” “He’s calling to his ancestors,” “He’s singing the song of his people,” “Your adorable dog is dramatic and doing too much… where can I get one?” and “A proud wolf.”

Chihuahuas Are Very Chatty Dogs

Franklin is working hard to find his voice, and while he may be a tiny guy, he’s not going to let people who hear his voice from a distance know that he’s not very big. And that’s how most Chihuahuas are, according to the experts.

Wag! explains that Chihuahuas are known to be very vocal dogs and howl and bark a lot—often because they’re bored. The site explains that Chihuahuas are “high-energy” dogs, and if they don’t have a way to release all that extra energy, they may let it out through “a high-pitched, monotone bark.”

If it annoys you or you need to keep their noise levels down to a minimum because of your living situation, like if you’re in an apartment, having activities and other ways for them to release their energy can help curb the noise they make. That means going for walks, playing together, having mental stimulation toys available, and other activities they love.

Franklin certainly has a bark that’s bigger than his size would suggest.
