To many cat parents, an overly affectionate feline friend seems like a wonderful problem to have. Nothing feels better than cuddling up with a pet at the end of a long day, and there’s something about a gentle purr and sandpaper tongue that can turn any stressful moment upside down.
Garfunkel is one of the most affectionate cats that Chicago shelter employee @frangrzesik has ever met! Despite his loving personality and affinity for hugs, this big black cat has been overlooked by adopters again and again. In fact, he was recently passed over for being “too affectionate,” and everyone feels heartbroken for him.
Garfunkel is such a sweetheart! There’s no question that he has Fran—and hundreds of thousands of viewers—wrapped around his paw. Now, all that’s left is to find his perfect home!
Fortunately, since Fran shared her video of this lovebug, he’s received several promising adoption applications! Even though he’s on his way to his perfect home, his plight is inspiring others to search their local shelters for their own velcro cat.

Chicago is full of pet parents who would love to bring home a shelter cat just like Garfunkel, which proves there’s no such thing as a cat who’s too loving. “Anyone who says a cat is ‘too affectionate’ isn’t a real cat person,” agrees @sammylynn_1215. “We crazy cat people want all the snuggles.”
Black Cats in Shelters
Everyone seems to be gushing over this lovable kitty, so why hasn’t he been adopted yet? Bad luck has undoubtedly played a role, but it’s possible he’s also been overlooked because of his color. For years, black-colored animals have waited much longer to be adopted, though coat color has nothing to do with an animal’s personality.
Black cats have also been associated with witchcraft, magic, and even bad luck, so some superstitious folks are still wary of them. Still, as Fran and her followers would agree, anyone who ends up with a cat as loving as Garfunkel would be the luckiest pet parent on Earth!
