We’ve all seen cute videos of dogs watching over chicks that aren’t theirs and even cats adopting baby animals that aren’t theirs. I’ve been writing about pets and animals for more than three years, but this video, shared by TikToker @marykelleher485, of one of her chickens adopting a puppy, is something that I haven’t seen before!
It starts with the chicken squawking and carrying on, and it’s clear she has something under her wing. When Mary goes in for a closer look to see what she’s got under there, it’s clear she’s just as surprised as the rest of us when she finds a newborn puppy, who quickly scoots back towards its new mom, hoping to get back to all the warmth she provides!
We laughed when Mary joked in the caption, “And that’s why we call our farm in East Fort Worth, Texas, the Funny Farm.”
We have so many questions, like how’d the puppy get there? Did Mary let the puppy stay? Are there other puppies? Unfortunately, Mary hasn’t posted another video since this one because we want to see more of these two!

Surprised Reactions to the Chicken Mama Caring for the Newborn Puppy
Viewers were just as surprised as we were by the chicken caring for the puppy. @Dr. Pepper305 received hundreds of likes when they shared a picture of the classic book, Are You My Mother?
@msabusterlover pointed out, “The way she readjusts her wing to cover doggo back up…” @Dawna agreed, “That’s her baby now LOL!”
We cracked up when @Sarah and Johnny Trou said what the chicken was saying when she started squawking, “I ain’t got nothing mind ya business!” and @Roxane replied, “I heard that, too LOL!” @Leah Paige added, “Awhhh, and the puppy wants to be there. So cute.”
@Jo Mama shared, “This is what they mean when they say ‘It takes a village.’ She’s just helping another mama out!”
“Broody hens are good moms,” said @ronyamarch. We’re not sure if this chicken has chicks running around or if this puppy is her only baby, but we can’t wait to see more of them!
