Greyhounds are extremely quick, running around 40 to 45 miles per hour in short sprints. This means they can match a car driving on a road and are about one and a half times faster than Usain Bolt at top speed. They achieve such speed thanks to bodies specifically built for running. They have long legs that create long strides. This allows them to cover great distances in a single step, with some dogs’ strides reaching up to 20 feet.

Greyhounds also have flexible spines. When they extend it, their body can stretch out, and when they compress it, their legs can bunch up underneath their body.
