Every career path has its perks and drawbacks, but few jobs come with the hazard of wild turkeys. These birds may look silly from a distance, but their large size and even larger personalities can be more intimidating than one may think. Anyone who’s been chased or cornered by one can confirm!
Although these wild birds typically keep to themselves, some turkeys become fascinated with people in ways we just can’t explain. That’s why the cat mom behind @gertiescatcottage couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw her local mail carrier being followed by a flock of devoted turkeys! This bizarre ritual happened in Janesville, Wisconsin, but it’s inspired people from across the globe to share their own turkey stories, too.
What in the world is happening? Seeing delivery drivers meeting dogs and rescuing cats along their routes has become a beloved genre on social media, but this is certainly a first. Wild turkeys don’t usually approach, let alone follow, humans, but something about this mailman has these birds hooked.
As commenter @magnolia.says.shhh pointed out, “it cracks me up how they wait for him, too.” They know his routine just as well as he does! From the turkeys’ clear path to the mailman’s unfazed attitude, something tells me this has happened before.

Nevertheless, this mail carrier remains dedicated to his job! @jwohlf even joked about how he’s “Delivering the mail in spite of the ‘fowl’ conditions.” He’s truly gone above and beyond by befriending the locals along his route, but unfortunately, these aren’t the kind of neighbors who will leave him tips during the holiday season.
Some viewers thought it looked like he was taking his children trick-or-treating, while others were reminded of a mama duck and her ducklings. Whatever this hilarious scene looks like to you, it’s impossible to miss the gentle bond of trust between man and nature.

Other mail carriers and delivery drivers get a less-than-friendly welcome from a spicy cat or unexpected wild animal. This mailman’s relationship with his turkey devotees may have started this way, too, but now his feathered friends are just part of his daily routine.
