Most dogs treat bath time like a chaotic event, taking every opportunity to splash and make as much of a mess as they can. But there are some dogs who don’t do what we expect, and not what we worry about either.
In this video, a cute Golden Retriever catches his parent and groomer off guard with his reaction to bath time. It’s hilarious and honestly perfect, but it is definitely not what anyone would have expected. Instead of chaos, this doggy chooses another direction, and it’s so funny.
TikTok user @caponeandmae shared a video of one of their dog-grooming clients, a Golden Retriever who is either having a very unique day or is the calmest, chillest dog we’ve ever come across.
It didn’t matter that he was literally mid-bath, with his full coat covered in sudsy shampoo, all ready to be rinsed off, brushed out, and blow-dried. But he’s not ready. Instead, he’s fully asleep, taking what looks like the best nap of his life. He’s the definition of very chill, and good for him.

In the caption, the groomer jokes that if something like this is going to happen, it’ll be a Golden Retriever or a Labrador. And people in the comments seem to agree and love this silly puppy, too.
One person wrote, “My late Schnauzer loved baths. When he had his spa day, my groomer would send me pics of him asleep across her arm. He also liked to be swaddled in towels and held like a literal human baby.”
Another legitimately asked, “How does one fall asleep in the bath?”
Other comments included, “Me as a dog,” and “My Lab hates the water.”

Golden Retrievers Should Get Regular Grooming
If we could go somewhere and leave feeling not just pretty with clean, styled hair, but a fully rejuvenating nap, we’d be all for it. And if that’s something your Golden Retriever would like, regular grooming is something that’s great for them, according to experts.
PetPlanUK explains that Golden Retrievers are known for a “lustrous double coat.” Because their coats have a very thick undercoat with a water-repellant top layer, Goldens need regular grooming, mainly brushing. The site suggests daily brushing and using a de-shedding tool to thin out the undercoat, which is especially important during typical shedding times—around autumn and spring.
The site also says that your Golden is likely to need a regular bathing schedule with pet-friendly shampoo, and that a shorter haircut during the summer is sometimes preferred for pups.
We love how much this sweet Golden Retriever loves his grooming, even if he misses out on most of it.
