I have always been a big believer in the fact that dogs are smarter than most humans think, but still, I’m grateful that there are certain things my dog has never been able to figure out… like how to let herself out of her crate or open the fridge and help herself to some snacks.
Some dogs are very good at tasks like that, though, including the giant Goldendoodle in the video below who almost managed to open a completely closed door himself.
While we don’t see him open the door in this particular video, we do see how determined he is to make it happen, and it looks like he’s getting pretty close!
This also is clearly not his first rodeo — getting this door open appears to be something he’s been thinking about for a long time!
In a comment, this pup’s mom shared that since this video was taken, he actually has figured out how to open some doors. She wrote, “He already knows how to get in, just not out yet. The door opens inward, but I’m sure he’ll figure it out!”

Goldendoodles Are Surprisingly Good at Opening Doors
If you’ve never lived with a Goldendoodle, it might surprise you to find out that many of them actually can figure out how to open doors, despite their lack of thumbs.
The anecdotal evidence of this is all over the comments of this post, with fellow Doodle parents sharing that their pups have already mastered this skill. One wrote, “Mine used to open the back door and let himself in from outside. Had to start locking it.”
The comments aren’t the only place you’ll find evidence of Doodles having this impressive skill. There are plenty of other TikTok videos out there showing Doodles opening doors with practically no problem at all, especially ones with the same style handle.
That being said, it never hurts to dog-proof the doors that lead outside (or to rooms that you don’t want your dog to get into). Even if your Doodle isn’t doing this particular trick just yet, you’ll be glad to have the peace of mind!
