My senior Dachshund used to love almost any type of food, yet over the years she’s become a bit more selective. In her younger years, she’d dine on any sort of dinner I’d serve. Now that she’s older, my Doxie’s digestion isn’t what it used to be and she prefers a finer quality of food.
Maybe it’s just a Dachshund thing. Archy the Dachshund also seems to have a picky palate and won’t eat any run-of-the-mill dog food for dinner.
In the TikTok from @archythedachshund, Archy’s bowl of kibble was set down in front of him at mealtime. The dapper Doxie leaned down to get a good sniff of what his mom served. It clearly wasn’t to the canine’s liking and he gave her a look that seemed to say, “you’ve got to be kidding me”.
Archy’s mom knew what she had to do. She brought the bowl back into the kitchen for some proper prep work.
First, she sectioned out some kibble and pretended to cut it down to a lesser size. Next, she moistened the kibble with some water and added some seasoning before setting it in the oven.
The revised culinary creation was then presented to the finicky fur baby. His mom clearly had worked some sort of magic because the faux gourmet meal met wtih Archy’s approval.
Add Some Flair to Your Fur Baby’s Food
If your dog is a little hard to please when it comes to meals, there are simple ways to elevate the flavor profile of their food. Try of a few of these ideas to finesse their feast:

-
Add warm water or broth to their dry food to soften the kibble and add flavor.
-
Mix in a small amount of wet food to add moisture and a different flavor in their meal.
-
Top off their food with a dash of plain yogurt or cottage cheese for protein and a little creamy texture.
-
Sprinkle some grated cheese or cooked meat on their food for an extra burst of taste and aroma.
-
Experiment with different brands and types of food to discover what they like best.
Archy seemed to like the enhancements made to his meal, so your dog may gobble up some of these gourmet boosters as well.
