Some of the smartest birds in the world are also some of the sweetest, cutest, and most loving companions anyone could have. Even Parrots in the wild are social by nature, foraging in flocks and finding comfort in being out and about with a slew of others like them. If you were to hand them a phone, don’t be alarmed if they call a bestie for a chat.
In today’s wholesome news you didn’t know you needed, Furby, the Cockatoo, did exactly that by joining a video chat with his best friend. When the call ended, the precious boy had the most heartwarming reaction.
I don’t think a 2:24-minute video is nearly long enough to watch Furby try to understand where his bestie went. As he repeats “I’m a good boy” and “hello,” the adorable Cockatoo isn’t processing the fact that the call ended and Mom’s recording him, but that’s OK. He’s a real cutie, happily hopping up and down her leg in hopes of taking another call!

When Furby isn’t on the phone yapping it up, he’s one busy boy who loves when Mom reads to him, enjoys running the house like the prince he is, and mostly watches his favorite musical ever, Hamilton. He begs for it daily, can barely contain his excitement while it loads, and sings and dances his little heart out!
I guarantee no one fangirls harder than this funny Parrot! I think someone should write a new character in the performance and get this cutie on stage!
Do Birds Understand Screen Time?
You may be shocked to learn that Parrots and Cockatoos like Furby do actually understand the context of things like video chats, TV shows, and movies.
Research shows they’re able to recognize what or who is on the screen (especially another bird), they’re able to engage through singing and dancing, and they can develop friendships this way, too. They’re so smart!
I don’t have a bird, but if I did, I hope he would be as cool as Furby. Maybe I could even convince him to make all my important calls for me so I don’t have to.
