If you’ve ever done laundry and been left with a pile of single socks, two social media-savvy Macawsmay have the answer to the never-ending question: “Where do all the other socks go?”
In a hilarious video shared to social media, two headstrong Macaws can be seen fighting over a dirty sock. With Henry Mancini’sPink Panther theme song playing over the clip, one social media user shared the birds’ battle for the single sock, which may explain where that household’s missing socks are.
In the video, the two Macaws playfully fight for control of the sock. When one of the birds gets hold of it, the other gently pushes it away and takes off in the opposite direction on the perch with the desired sock clutched in its beak. The sock eventually falls out of the bird’s beak, which means the errant sock is up for grabs. These two will no doubt spend the bulk of their day fighting for sock dominance.
These sock-loving Macaws have the energy of a longtime married couple as they battle it out for control of the sock. One gets the sense they’ve had this fight before—and that they’ll have it again.

Macaws: Playful and Intelligent
These two Macaws may look like they’re fighting, but the highly social species of bird is actually quite playful and intelligent. Macaws thrive on social interaction and mental stimulation, but their strong beaks and need for constant engagement have earned them a reputation for being destructive at times.
What looks like fighting over a dirty sock is more likely two intelligent social butterflies (er, Macaws) turning a sock into a toy. And because Macaws have an intense need to chew, these two may simply be satisfying that need—not intentionally trying to destroy the sock.
And if it wasn’t clear from this charming video, Macaws are not low-maintenance birds. These busy birds require plenty of toys and attention to keep them occupied. But Macaws do become attached and affectionate with their humans, which makes for a new best friend—even if he or she does steal your socks.
