As a pet parent, I’m acutely aware of the fact that my furry besties aren’t here forever. Just thinking of a time of looking across the room and my senior Staffys bed is empty is enough to leave me sobbing on the bathroom floor. The good news is, even after the crushing pain of losing a beloved companion, there’s always another to save—and they might be the best path to healing.

Potato is one of these sweet dogs who seems like he’s been sent from above with a clear purpose: to comfort his grieving human brother. And just like that, the American Bully did the job and passed with flying colors.

In case you haven’t cried yet today, @bundleofbullies has what you need.

The video shows the young boy getting all the love from his new rescue pup, Potato. The little boy recently lost his soul dog, Bean, and he’s been devastated. The darling Bully understood the assignment, and as Mom wrote, he took that soul dog role, “and now they are inseparable.”

Potato Is an American Bully Angel

Potato joined his new “pack,” which includes other precious Bullies: Cupcake, Noodle, and Bacon. His presence has been so much more of a comfort to his human brother, but for Mom, too, at a time when all hope felt lost.

After the devastating series of incidents that resulted in the loss of the family’s four Bullies—including the fan-favorite rescue with the sweetest smile in the world, Raffie—Potato came along with all the love they needed. He’s a natural guardian, protecting their hearts from more pain, and yeah, we’re crying.

For a breed so misunderstood and feared because of stereotypes, there are so many pups who fall under the Pit Bull” umbrella who are the most devoted, affectionate, and biggest babies you’ll ever have.

American Pit Bull Terrier, American Bully,Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and American Staffordshire Terrier are known to be loyal “Velcro dogs,” highly social, and total sweethearts (despite their bad rap).

I could point to a million different examples of why pups like Potato deserve a second chance in a forever home. But as I watch my sweet senior Staffy sleep across from me, I already know.
