Turn Scrap Cardboard Into The Cutest Cat-Themed Storage Bin

If you have a pet cat in your home, then you know that cats and cardboards have a love-hate relationship. However, despite the chaos both parties create, one thing stays true: the love for cats and all things feline. Before you discard the aftermath of your cat’s playfulness, you can turn the remaining scrap cardboard (free of scratches and bites, of course) into a cute cat-themed storage bin. Salvage two pieces of firm, scratch-free cardboard — one you can use as the bin’s base, and another long enough to create a strip that will serve as the bin’s edges. You will also need acrylic paint, paintbrushes, and craft glue to complete your cat-themed DIY.

This storage bin can stand alone as a piece of decor, but it works as a great storage solution out of cardboard boxes. You can use it to keep small items organized, such as tiny desk stationery, jewelry, and other trinkets.

How to cut and assemble your cat-themed storage bin

On the first piece of cardboard, trace a circle using either a compass or a round lid of your preferred size, then cut it out evenly. Next, grab the longer piece of cardboard and measure a strip about one inch tall and with enough length to wrap around the circular base. Before cutting this strip, draw a pair of cat ears along the middle section so it’s built into the shape.

Once you have both shapes ready, attach the strip around the circular base using craft glue, and press it gently to help set the structure. Once the glue has dried, paint the entire object in your chosen base color — get inspiration from the colors and patterns of your favorite cat, whether it’s a calico, an orange tabby, or a black cat. After this layer dries, paint the cat’s eyes, nose, whiskers, and any extra details you want to include.

Give your cute and creative organizer an additional layer of sturdiness by coating it with a product like Mod Podge for a protected finish. If one is not enough, try adding an extra tier by making another cat-shaped bin and connect them vertically using two one-inch cardboard strips adjoined at the sides of each tray.
