Dogs are pure chaos. In a good way, of course. They chase their own tail, drag possums into the living room, and sleep on freshly washed blankets. And afterwards, they have the nerve to make the infamous ‘puppy dog eyes.’ Because they know that this is their secret weapon, which is yet to misfire.
Moments like this set off a flurry of feelings in you. You get slightly frustrated, shake your head, and let out a long sigh. But still, these critters are very far from sorry. They do manage to fake that ‘guilty’ look sometimes, but you know they’d do it again. What do you do about it? There’s always good old disciplining. But you know it won’t work every single time.
In a recent discussion on Reddit, users shared stories of their dogs’ most baffling behaviors. The discussion highlighted how often dogs create unexpected “are you serious” moments. They do something unexpected, and you go, ‘ARE YOU KIDDING ME?’
The author uploaded a picture of their German Shepherd along with the opening question. And as you’d expect, responses flooded in. While some concentrated on how beautiful the German Shepherd was, others were busy describing their doggos’ antics.
One person said that their female Labrador wanted to chase the geese next to her at the park but promptly got distracted by her own poop in the grass. And in the violent struggle between poop and prey, poop was crowned the ultimate victor.
In another similarly hilarious story, the dog seemed allergic to a particular song (‘Sweet Caroline’). If anyone happens to sing it before her (the audacity!), she will promptly look the other way and leave the room. Now, this one really has us scratching our heads. The mystery is yet unsolved.
The swarm of comments does not stop here. Some other people said that their dog had ears resembling Wi-Fi, but those ears didn’t even serve the basic auditory function. There’s little you can do about it. Dog Wi-Fi works in goofy (woofy) ways.
And then, of course, there were the comments about the dogs getting dirty by playing in the mud, acting ‘hypnotized’ by the curtains, and just staring into space like a statue. It was seemingly endless. And all very entertaining to read.
I’m sure you relate to this if you’ve ever owned a dog. They will behave like absolute good boys and girls, but at times they will ‘rebel’ in the most unexpected places. And you will be torn between feeling helpless and bursting out in laughter.
Dogs are wonderful creatures that way. They are lovely, loyal, and also entertainers. Sure, they may poop on our porch and add to our workload, but they are quite chill otherwise.
Most people get their dogs as puppies, and they nurture them from a young age. These puppies are virtually like their own kids, whom they have seen and ‘brought up’ by themselves. And they treat them exactly as they would treat their own kids. These are naughty little ‘toddlers’ that are continuously making life tough for their parents, knocking things over, running to the wrong places, and being difficult at times.
All this is very tough to manage, for sure. But it’s really worth it. It’s all part of the ‘drill’ of dog parenthood. We control them, correct them, and chide them. And learn a lot about dogs—and ourselves—in the process. The whole thing is nothing short of rewarding. In fact, we cherish every moment of it.
So, why do dogs behave this way? The answers are quite complex and multi-layered. They are naturally curious, and many of them are driven by scents. Especially breeds such as Beagles. Their brain doesn’t dictate to them; their nose does. And they are strongly driven by scent. Some others are just really stubborn by nature. You can goad them, scold them, take away their toys, but nothing seems to work. They will remain their usual stubborn selves. Some breeds are naturally like this; it’s in their blood.
The Bottom Line
