Senior Golden Retriever Thinks He’s Running Away From Mom and He’s So Proud of Himself

As dogs get older, they definitely slow down, and their energy isn’t quite what it used to be, even if they don’t realize it. But every now and then, they get a burst of it, just like this senior Golden Retriever named Hudson does in this video.

The video starts with Hudson slowly “running away” from his mom to go say hello to a stranger. He knows Mom is watching him, and when he turns around to see if she’s “chasing” him to try to catch him, the look on his face shows how proud he is of breaking the rules!

This is just the sweetest! Hudson’s mom said that he thought he was being naughty, and we think he looks adorable doing it! She also said in the caption, “He was ‘running’ off to a man who was cutting up branches… and I let him. He was rewarded with a big fuss from the lovely man!” Awww! We’re sure they both enjoyed it!

Sweet Reactions to the Speedy Golden Retriever

Like us, viewers were smitten with Hudson’s reaction to getting away with being naughty. Like @Logan Michelle, who pointed out, “He’s just a boy, he’s running as fast as lightning, and he thinks it’s funny you can’t catch him! LOL! He’s living the best life, I love it!”

@Ragnar the Red joked, “It’s literally the law that senior dogs get to do whatever the h*ll they like!” @Chief agreed, “If their face is grey, they get their way.”

Another commenter joked, “Woaaaaaahhh slow down, fella, jeeez we’re not all Usain Bolt, you know!”

When does a dog become a senior? It’s not based on their age; it’s actually based on weight, according to certified professional dog trainer Adrienne Faricelli.

She explains that dogs weighing 15 pounds or less are considered seniors at age 11. Dogs that weigh between 16 and 50 pounds typically reach senior status around 9 years of age. For dogs between 51 and 80 pounds, that milestone comes at about 8 years old, and dogs weighing more than 80 pounds are considered seniors as early as 6 years of age.

Hudson’s adventure running away was probably the highlight of his day. He didn’t look very senior to us while he was enjoying it!
