Many shelter and rescue dogs take to stuffed animals because it gives them a sense of permanence in an otherwise chaotic, unstable environment. Even after finding a forever home, stuffies are the bridge connecting them to the past and present. If you think about it, it’s a really sweet sentiment.
Archie is a rescue dog who already hit the family jackpot (a wish I have for all shelter pups), but this week, he received his own lookalike stuffie. His reaction is the pure, wholesome content that makes your heart smile.

Archie isn’t an only child, and the energy of his canine siblings sometimes stresses him out. He’s more of a cuddler who likes quiet alone time with Mom, so there’s never been a better time than now for him to receive that stuffie!
The Power of Stuffies Is Real
With so many great dogs in need of homes, adopting a shelter dog is an immensely fulfilling experience for a slew of reasons, even if they’re initially stressed from shelter life. When I first laid eyes on my senior rescue, he was so defeated he couldn’t be bothered to look up or acknowledge any visitors, and he definitely didn’t have any toys of his own.
That all changed the moment he knew he was leaving with us, and he lit up when we gave him his own stuffies for comfort. Now that he’s been with us for a while, he still relies on those stuffies whenever he’s anxious, a little too excited, or just to pass the time. They’ve been a life-changer for him and us.
