Animals are genuinely the most wholesome beings, with the purest souls. Most often, we see their shine come out in unlikely interspecies friendships. Sometimes it’s something as simple as a barnyard friendship between a dog and its cow.
Other times, it leans a little more exotic, with special bonds forming between dogs and reptiles. One donkey has a very special friendship with a blind horse, which has led some people to say that we truly don’t deserve animals.

Petey the Seeing Eye Donkey
Petey the donkey has a very special relationship with his barnmate, Luna. She is a blind horse. Petey has taken it upon himself to make sure Luna gets outside safely every day.
In a video shared on Petey’s TikTok page, you can see him walk up to Luna’s stall, sweetly letting her know that it is time to head outside to the pasture. Now, donkeys aren’t known for being particularly quiet, but Petey’s voice is so soft and gentle, like he is making sure not to startle her. After letting her know that it’s time to start their outdoor adventure, he patiently waits for her to make her way to the opening of her stall, making sure to meet her there for a quick check-in.
Once he feels her nose give his hindquarters a tap, he walks in front of her, leading the way out of the barn and onto the field. She happily trots behind him until they disappear out onto the grass, soon to be followed by another one of the barn’s residents.
It’s truly the sweetest thing to watch. He takes such good care of her, and you can tell that Petey truly cares about Luna and her well-being. Their equine parents shared in the comments that they had nothing to do with this routine. Petey took it upon himself to start this with Luna and has continued it.
Petey’s fans applaud his efforts and his sweet initiative, saying this donkey has a heart of gold. Fans also think this pair’s story should be turned into a children’s book. That’s one powerful lesson just waiting to be shared. Perhaps we will see it on the shelves one day. For now, we get to settle for watching Petey take care of his friend.
