Niall Harbison just shared another win for one of his rescue dogs. His massive social media following that details the many street dogs he saves and rehabilitates through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo, has captured the hearts of millions worldwide, and Harbison’s latest post reveals another happy ending.
Sonny the Husky mix was abandoned by his family and in extremely poor health when Harbison was called in. Today, the precious pooch is thriving after receiving the love and care from the Happy Doggo team and even has a home to call his own.
Sonny’s family deserted him years earlier, yet he stayed in the rundown environment thinking they would come back. The Instagram video from @niall.harbison showed the horrific conditions he was living in. Sonny needed medical attention after so many years fending for himself.
“He was broken by neglect,” the onscreen text shared.
Harbison brought him to the Happy Doggo sanctuary, where he received medical care, nutritious meals, and lots of love and affection from the entire rescue team.
“We took him in and fixed up his health and got his confidence back up,” the caption explained, with clips of Sonny decked out in a bright bandana with a lush coat, welcoming the loving attention he was getting from the Happy Doggo staff.
Sonny Didn’t Have to Wait Any Longer
Finding Sonny a forever home was a bit challenging since he wasn’t able to fly. But the day finally arrived when the canine cutie got the best news ever.
“After 220 days as our longest resident, it was time to say goodbye,” the story continued. “It was finally time for Sonny to go home.”
The chemistry was instant between Sonny and the lovely couple who adopted him. It was a perfect match.
“I did the introductions but to be honest, I was hardly needed,” Harbison explained in the caption. “Somehow Sonny already knew the second they arrived that they were his people. He really knew.”
But wait… there’s more! The young man and woman got engaged while getting Sonny from Happy Doggo, commemorating the adoption in a very special way. The video featured highlights of Sonny in his new home, swimming, playing, and snuggling with his new parents, feeling safe and completely loved.
“To see him comfortable with his new little family and for them to have gotten engaged at the land while adopting him — that’s the stuff of dreams,” the caption read, with the onscreen text adding, “They promised him he’d never be left behind again… Chosen at last.”

Harbison launched Happy Doggo in 2021. In addition to the sterilization and daily feeding of thousands of street dogs, he recently opened a full-service medical clinic in honor of his beloved Golden Retriever, Tina.
