Great Pyrenees Takes a Moment To Recognize Dad, but When He Does, We All Need Tissues

Dogs have the remarkable ability to recognize their family, no matter where they are or how long it’s been since they last saw them. Whether it’s the sound of their human’s voice, their scent, or even the way they walk, dogs can instantly pick out their people—even in a crowd.

Recently, one mom shared a video of the reunion between her sweet pup and his dad after a long three-month separation, and honestly, it’s a heartwarming moment for everyone involved. Ritchie is an 8-year-old Great Pyrenees with a very unique situation—his parents share custody of him. Although he lives primarily with his mom, he and his dad visit often.

In a recent Instagram clip shared by @ritchiethepyr, Mom took Ritchie to meet his dad at the airport baggage claim. She drops his leash, expecting him to go straight to Dad, but at first, he doesn’t quite recognize him.

Ritchie walks past his dad, though he pauses to give his neck pillow a good sniff—clearly, it’s a familiar scent. The fluffy boy then walks up to a stranger who gives him a quick pat on the head, before approaching another traveler who seems less than interested in meeting him. Then, Dad whistles his signature tune, and the Great Pyrenees instantly turns around, spots his paw-rent, and makes a beeline right into his arms.

Thoughts From Ritchie’s Biggest Fans

One viewer joked, “It’s dangerous to let him off-leash because I would totally scoop him up and run away!”

While another said, “That’s not a dog!! He’s a giant fluffball!”

But the best comment came from Mom herself, who wrote, “It’s a Great Pyrenees thing… processing takes 3-5 business days!” 🤣

Clearly, Ritchie has a special connection with his dad, and their bond is undeniable. The look of pure joy on his face when he realized who was whistling for him was unmistakable—someone pass the tissues!
