Some of you stayed here this summer, enjoying the ease of getting immediate restaurant reservations at even the top local restaurants — not to mention that getting there was even easier with the diminished summer traffic.
Others of you left town and went to other places and other homes. But whether you were here or elsewhere, if you were with your dogs or cats, you had a good summer. (And so did they.)
Reilly Emmett lived the life of Reilly this summer, traveling back and forth between Nantucket & New York. The 7-year-old Shih Tzu is “regularly recognized by the flight attendants when she gets on the plane,” said Sarah Higgins Emmett, her owner.
Now that you’re back (or will be soon), you’ll be able to enjoy some of the great parties we have here, especially the pet ones held each year. Not only will you have fun if you go, but you’ll have the added pleasure of knowing that your buying tickets helped other pets besides your own.
Here are the biggest events coming up this year. They sell out rapidly, so put these on your calendar now.
One of the most popular pet events of the year — for people and their pets — is the Tri-County Animal Rescue’s Peppermint Bark & Brunch. Not only do people love this one, but so do their dogs because owners can bring them and even pose for a (free) pix with them.
The Peppermint Bark & Brunch always features an extravagant brunch, a doggie buffet (sorry, cats, you’ll have to eat lunch at home), raffles, gifts, and live music. It takes place at 10:30 (with lunch at noon) on Sunday, Nov. 23 at Trump International Golf Course. Call 561-665-0101 or 561)-482-8110, or visit tricountyanimalrescue.org and go to events.
The Peggy Adams Christmas Ball, a black-tie affair, is always a spectacular evening. This year it will be even more special since it’s their 100th anniversary. This Centennial Jubilee will feature cocktails, dinner, and dancing. Call 561-472-8842 or visit peggyadams.org/christmasball.
Save the Date: The 15th Annual American Humane Hero Dog Awards will be held Jan. 9, 2026, at Mar-a-Lago. Available event details or sponsorship information can be found at events@americanhumane.org.
Save the Date: American Humane’s eighth annual Pups for Patriots Dinner Dance is set for Feb. 1, 2026, at Club Colette. Call 561-537-5887 or visit americanhumane.org.
Rescue pet owners: Another pet-related event this year will be the first Palm Beach Rescue Pet Photo Contest. It’s open to any dogs or cats in the county, and winners will be announced in January. Send a cute photo of your rescue dog or cat to PauletteC@aol.com.
Lana, a year-and-a-half-old Biewer (pronounced “Beaver”) Terrier, is the grandpet of West Palm Beach resident Mona DeSayve. “I’m her grandmother,” she said proudly of this rare pup, pictured in her carrier while she was traveling on a train this summer. Photo provided by Mona DeSayve
Archie B Bones (left — tiny boy) & Tilly Bee, a gift from Lois Pope to Florence Seiler “stayed in Palm Beach with their favorite nanny when we took trips and cruised,” Florence said.
