There are countless ways dogs act like kids. They’re curious, a little dramatic when it suits them, silly in all the best ways, and absolutely committed to their nap schedules. And with grandparents? They know exactly how to turn the charm up to full power to get whatever they want.
Poppy, the beautiful Boxer, is an expert in the art of grandparent manipulation.
Her parents joke that she told Grandma she’d been neglected, which is exactly the kind of story a doting grandmother will sprint across town to fix. And like any kid who knows something good is coming, Poppy reacted before she even made it through the door.
Check out her priceless lesson in manipulation in this TikTok shared by @princess.poppyyy on November 15:
As a dog mom, I know this scenario far too well. The second Grandma or Grandpa shows up, my dogs suddenly act like they’ve never known affection, haven’t eaten in days, and have lived a deprived life full of empty food bowls and forgotten playtime. The drama is unmatched. And it always works.

In Poppy’s situation, it was clear this wasn’t their first time doing this routine. She was already buzzing with excitement before the door even opened, but once it did, that Boxer nose kicked into high gear. She knew the cake pop was for her and was determined to get to it as quickly as possible.
It took her just two enthusiastic bites to finish the whole thing. Grandma didn’t miss a beat before saying, “She’s ravenous. Next time I’ll bring two.” That is exactly how grandparents get promoted to “favorite human” status.
Once the treat was gone, it was time for cuddles. Poppy curled up with Grandma in her pretty pink bonnet, soaking up story time, chewing her bone, and accepting all the kisses she could get. She even gave her mom the classic “don’t interrupt this” look. You know, the one every dog seems to perfect as soon as they realize its power.

A Boxer’s One-of-a-Kind Personality
The American Kennel Club reports that Boxers are well known for their playfulness, alertness, and deep affection for their people. They’re high-energy dogs who thrive on interaction, and they also have a gentle and incredibly loyal side.
The AKC notes that Boxers are especially good with children, often forming strong bonds and taking on protective, gentle “big sibling” behaviors. Their expressive faces and people-oriented nature make them natural comedians who love being part of the action, and often the center of it.
Poppy shows every bit of that beloved personality. Her excitement, her theatrics, and her pure delight over that simple cake pop perfectly capture why this breed is so adored.
The next time your dog puts on their “poor, starving, forgotten child” routine when Grandma walks in, just remember Poppy. Our pups may have perfected the act, but the truth is they just love the people who spoil them. And judging by the look on her face in that bonnet, some dogs were simply born to be the grandbaby.
