Playful Baby Horse At the San Diego Zoo Has the Zoomies and We Can’t Stop Watching

There’s nothing cuter than a wobbly-legged horse, is there? This little lady at the San Diego zoo recently made her internet debut and has now secured her spot as the latest zoomer. You get to watch her take off, spend time with mom, and take a dust bath. Also included in this clip are her rolls and jumps that make for peak adorableness.

The caption explains, “The Safari Park teams welcomed a precious female Przewalski’s horse on September 30, born to mom Nikki and dad Ziggy. This lively foal is the first Przewalski’s horse born at the Park since 2023, and plays an essential role in supporting global populations of this endangered species, which were once declared extinct in their native habitats.”

It goes on to tell us that since she’s so new, you can only see her at certain times, if you’re lucky enough to have a trip to the zoo planned.

It’ll come as no surprise that viewers fell in love with the precious filly. “What a sweet little girl. So happy these animals are still with us,” exclaimed @meggo. It’s certainly wonderful to see such a thriving group here. @eurydice added, “HER LITTLE LEGS.” Finally, @Emma Enigma perfectly summed up the video, “Filly and mare look phenomenal. Look at the shine on mama’s coat! This is wonderful to see.” Both are doing great!

What is a Przewalski’s horse?

These beautiful beasties are a distant cousin of the domestic horse we know. They still live in Mongolia, China, and Kazakhstan, and once inhabited much of Europe and Asia. Sadly, habitat loss and other factors have led to the decline of this species though they remain the only real wild horse left. The three locations are all places they’ve been reintroduced and are taking hold. According to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, “Through breeding programs, Zoos have been instrumental in preventing the Przewalski’s horse from dying out altogether.”

Because they’re quite a bit smaller than most horses, Przewalski’s horses are often described as stocky. But that just makes them even cuter. Their dwindling numbers make this newest addition a cause for celebration.
