Animal shelters work tirelessly trying to provide a loving environment for homeless dogs and cats as they wait for adoption. Many of these fur babies have a hard time acclimating to a kennel residence especially if they were used to a family home.
Mae the Pit Bull was surrendered to the Friends of Homeless Animals shelter when she was 7 years old from the only home she’s ever lived in. This incredibly sweet dog longs for a forever family and is starting to lose hope.
The pretty brown Pittie had a look of sadness on her face as the shelter staff member encouraged her to walk to her kennel. The TikTok from @foha_va shared Mae’s story and why she was so hesitant.
“She is terrified of the shelter and will do anything to not go back to her kennel,” the onscreen text explained. “The stress is starting to take a toll on her. She has to be carried back to her kennel every time.”
The video showed the kennel staff member carrying Mae back to her run. Mae had pure love and kindness in her eyes as she seemed to plead for an actual home.
“Mae has been heartbreakingly patient, waiting almost a year at the shelter for someone finally to choose her,” the story continued. “Every time she’s returned to her kennel, the stress and loneliness seem to weigh on her a little more. All Mae wishes for is a family to call her own.”
Mae Is Pure Sweetness
The caption described Mae as “the sweetest girl,” which was obvious from her extremely gentle demeanor. The post pleaded for others to share Mae’s story in the hopes of getting her a loving home.
“She doesn’t deserve this and desperately needs our help finding the family meant for her,” the caption read. “If you’ve met Mae, you know she’s one of the kindest, most loving souls you’ll ever encounter. She has a gentle heart and soft eyes that seem to look right into yours, as if she’s asking for a place to belong.”
This love bug needs to be the only pet in the home, loves to be surrounded by people and is wonderful with kids.

“Mae is house-trained, crate-trained, and incredibly gentle with children, including little ones under five,” the shelter shared. “She has a calm, nurturing energy that makes her a natural companion for kids.”
Even in her sadness, Mae still shows people love and kindness every single day and truly brings joy to those around her.
“Mae greets everyone with a joyful tail wag and one of her favorite toys proudly in her mouth,” the caption noted. “She’s the kind of dog who loves to be near people, curling up at your feet while you work or resting her head gently in your lap when you sit on the couch. She doesn’t need much…. just love, routine, and a family to call her own.”
Hopefully Mae will be able to spend the holiday season with a forever family.
