Grandma Bakes Full Thanksgiving Turkey for Beloved Newfoundland Since He Deserves a Celebration Too

TikTok is full of sweet videos this week, and this might be the best one yet, especially considering the timing. The video opens with a huge Newfoundland in a kitchen, wagging his tail while a sweet older woman says, “Wow! Look what I’ve got” while she reaches into the oven to get…an entire turkey!

The caption says, “My 96-year-old Grandma baked my dog a turkey,” and all that sobbing is the entire Internet, who absolutely CANNOT take the adoreableness encapsulated in this video.

Below that it says, “She wanted him to have a celebration, too.” She pats him on the back while his tail wags wildly and says, “Have a Happy Thanksgiving.” Then, she proceeds to pick out the best pieces for him and feed him.

Chewy the Newfie, doesn’t look shocked, and my guess is that Grandma spoils him like this all the time, and that she’s probably just about his favorite person in the world. Ugh, my heart!

Everyone’s weepy, but happy tears, “Just for you, Chewy. I am bawling.” And another said, “Normalize treating animals like humans! They are only here for a short time, so give them good memories! This video is amazing! I know big boy loved it.” (And I *loved* that comment.)

So many people love and respect this Grandma, commenting, “Protect this woman at all costs, bless her heart.” and “96?! That family is blessed. I pray she has another healthy decade in her.”

The kindness she showed Chewy touched everyone, and how could it not?

Why Pets Mean So Much to Seniors — and What Chewy Gives Back to Grandma

There’s something so amazing going on in this video that goes far beyond a turkey. Spending time with a pet can have so many benefits for a senior including, decreased cortisol and stress, improved mood and cardiovascular health, decreased loneliness, more physical exertion, and better blood pressure control.

It also can give them a task and a real sense of purpose, which you can see in the way that Grandma moves around the kitchen and looks at Chewy while she gets the turkey out. He’s her companion and her audience. Her reason to get up and move around and do something joyful and give him an amazing day just for the fun of it.

They utterly adore each other, and you can tell in this short interaction that it’s completely mutual because she lights up when she speaks to him and his tail never stops wagging.

For Chewy, it’s enrichment, and it’s love, and for Grandma, you can tell she’s just thrilled to be making him happy. That bond, in and of itself, is its own little holiday. Chewy got his celebration, Grandma got the joy of giving it to him, and we were all lucky enough to witness it.
