Golden Retriever Struggles To Start His Day and We Can Relate

Some mornings are the worst, and our pets would agree—sometimes it’s just hard to get moving. Whether it was a long week at work, a late night out, or a holiday letdown, there are days when waking up feels harder than it should. Maverick, an adorable Golden Retriever, really struggled to put any pep in his step, and honestly, it’s completely relatable.

The poor guy wasn’t even lying in his doggie bed; instead, he was crashed out next to it on the hardwood floor. Unfortunately, he happened to be positioned right in front of the closet door, and his mom needed to get in there.

In the video, the mom behind @maverickthegolden on TikTok says, “Hey Mav, am I allowed to open the door?” The exhausted Golden doesn’t even open his eyes… poor guy. He’s snoozing hard, like he was up all night with a cranky toddler.

She quietly leans down, gently pets his head, and whispers, “Hi puppers,” and “Good morning.” But Maverick still isn’t interested and barely cracks an eye open to look at her. His mom gives a quiet giggle and says she’ll be in her room, leaving the snoozing pup to get a few more winks.

Does Maverick Finally Get Up?

A little while later, she returns, and as she opens the door, she asks, “Are you going to get up?” Finally, we see signs of life from Maverick as he lifts his head off the ground in what might be an attempt to rise and shine.

Maverick eventually gets up and does some big stretches and head scratches in the hallway while Mom asks, “Are you okay? We’re having a rough morning here!” One commenter joked, “No, Susan, I’m not okay. I have told you thrice not to wake me, and here we are—awake!” Another added, “I am not OK! I was just rudely awoken!”

In the end, the Golden Retriever’s sleepy struggle is yet another reminder of how lovable—and totally relatable—our four-legged family members really are.
